About the training course. Orxe - what kind of lesson is this? Module “Secular Ethics”

Several years ago, in some schools, the abbreviation appeared in the schedule - ORKSE. Today it is used everywhere. Moreover, this course is included in the new educational standards (FSES). And today's fourth graders are required to study this subject.

A subject that, in fact, is chosen not by schoolchildren, but by parents. What kind of course is this and what are its features? We addressed these and other questions to the leading specialist of the education department, Lyudmila Vasilievna Lodygina.

– Lyudmila Vasilievna, what do these five letters – ORKSE – hide?
– This is a comprehensive training course “Fundamentals of Religious Cultures and Secular Ethics,” which is now a mandatory part of the state standard and is included in the fourth grade educational program. It includes several modules: foundations of Orthodox culture, foundations of Jewish culture, foundations of Buddhist culture, foundations of Islamic culture, foundations of world religious cultures and foundations of secular ethics.

– And fourth-graders will have to study all this during the year?
- No. In fact, children, or rather, parents (or their legal representatives) choose one of the modules at their discretion. Making a decision to enroll a child in a particular module without parental consent is not permitted. Moreover, the results of the choice must be recorded in the minutes of parent meetings and statements from parents.

– But sometimes it’s difficult to make a choice in favor of one module or another...
- Undoubtedly. Here teachers come to the rescue; at the same meetings they must explain the specifics of each module and introduce them to the topics of the course.

– Is it possible to refuse to study this course altogether?
– No, since ORKSE is included in the Federal State Educational Standard, refusal to study it is considered as an obstacle to the child’s obtaining a general education in accordance with Russian legislation.

– In our area, which module did the majority of fourth-graders choose?
– 423 students (67.4%) will study the basics of secular ethics, 198 (31.5%) will study the basics of Orthodox culture, and 7 fourth-graders (1.1%) will learn the basics of world religious cultures.

– Who will teach this course and what to do if in one class students choose several modules at once?
– This course is taught either by primary school teachers or subject teachers. It is worth noting that today 80% of teachers have completed relevant courses and have teaching certificates. As for the choice of several modules in one class, this is not an easy question, but nevertheless, school administrations will find some solutions so that the interests of children and parents are not infringed.

– Are there many schools where parents of fourth-graders made a unanimous decision to choose a module?
“There are a majority of such schools in the area.” Thus, “Fundamentals of Secular Ethics” was unanimously chosen in school. No. 1, at school No. 15 and 90 (Kuloy settlement), in Levkovskaya, Blagoveshchenskaya, Dolmatovskaya, Argunovskaya, Lipovskaya, Rakulo-Kokshengskaya, Pakshengaskaya and Verkhne-Ustkuloiskaya schools. The study of the module “Fundamentals of Orthodox Culture” was given preference at school. No. 2, in Ust-Shonoshskaya, Komsomolskaya, Solginskaya, Khozminskaya, Sudromskaya, Shunemskaya and Pezhemskaya schools. Let me note: it is the Pezhemskaya school in our area that is the base platform for studying the foundations of Orthodox culture. Teachers of this educational institution conduct opening lessons and extracurricular activities on this course. The rector of the Holy Dormition Church, Archpriest Andrei Ermilov, provides great assistance to teachers teaching this module.

– Despite the fact that the course is compulsory, probably not all parents understand the importance of studying it... Perhaps there are also opponents of teaching this subject in schools. What would you say to these parents?
– First of all, I note that the course is not doctrinal, but cultural in nature; the content of all modules of the comprehensive training course is subordinated to a common goal - educating the personality of a Russian citizen by introducing him to moral and ideological values. What is important is that the content of all modules is grouped around three basic national values: Fatherland, family and cultural tradition. Is this bad for raising a child?

– Lyudmila Vasilievna, thank you for the conversation. I would like to hope that conducting this course will indeed bear fruit. After all, the ancient Roman philosopher Seneca wrote: “Learn first good morals, and then wisdom. For without the former it is difficult to learn the latter.”

Abstract to the material

Presentations on ORKSE for 4th grade- this is a wonderful visualization for a teacher who has taken on teaching a completely new subject at school. This is the discipline that is designed to lay the roots of morality in the child’s soul, strengthen his faith in goodness, and provide the foundations of secular ethics and religious culture. Unfortunately, most adults whose childhood experienced years of religious oppression do not have the necessary amount of knowledge to help introduce their children to the Orthodox traditions, which have a wonderful, rich history. Looking at the civilized world, which sacredly honors religion and respects secular laws, it becomes offensive for such gaps in our upbringing. There is still an opportunity to make up for what was once lost. So let the new generation grow up kind and sympathetic, noble and merciful, and multimedia will help with this presentations of ORKSE lessons for 4th grade.

The country saw the light and realized the wrongness of atheistic education. Today the emphasis is on the connection of religion with human life. The right to choose religion will in no way be infringed when studying the course “Fundamentals of Religious Cultures and Secular Ethics.” The subject is presented in six modules. Parents have the right to choose one of the areas of study at school. A competent teacher who has completed the course should teach this subject to a high level. If you have knowledge, but do not have enough visualization, we suggest downloading for free for lessons a presentation on the OPK ("Fundamentals of Orthodox Culture") based on Kuraev's textbook for grade 4 from this section. In addition, we will fill it, as far as possible, with electronic works that will tell the basics of other religious cultures and secular ethics.

The lessons of the ORKSE course have their own characteristics. The teacher must think through in advance not only each of his words, but the expected answers of the children. In this lesson, more than in any other, it is important to let the child speak and convey to him the topic that was planned for study. Let this collection of electronic aids collected from the Internet (Svetoch website and others) help you to instill in schoolchildren the best human qualities necessary for us to live in a morally healthy society.
